Unit 1
These notes teach that the Bible is one book made up of 66 books, written by many authors over thousands of years, but all with one message: the gospel. The Old Testament shows God remaining faithful and preparing the need for a Savior, while the New Testament shows that Savior coming in Jesus Christ. The notes stress that the Bible is not just a set of stories or teachings; it is the unfolding of God’s rescue plan through Jesus from beginning to end.
The notes also explain how the Bible was formed and why it is trustworthy. The Old Testament was recognized through Jewish tradition, and the New Testament was written close to Jesus’ life and identified by apostolic authority, miracles, truth, power, and the church’s recognition. Bible reading should follow the 3 C’s: Context, Content, and Contact. That means understanding the historical and literary setting, reading the text carefully, and then applying it to life without forcing our own ideas into it.
The gospel is the main theme of the whole Bible. Jesus said that the Scriptures testify about Him, and the notes show that all of Scripture prepares for, explains, or applies the gospel. The gospel is the good news that Jesus died for sins and rose again so people can be saved. It is not just the starting point of Christianity; it is the center of Christian life. These notes show that God’s plan of redemption is woven through the whole Bible and that every believer should read Scripture in light of Christ.
